Dry Hair vs. Dehydrated Hair : Dry hair refers to hair that lacks the ability to produce natural oil often due to external factors. While dehydrated hair is the hair's inability to maintain water inside the hair shaft. Dehydrated hair will often have loss of elasticity (stretch) and feel coarse to touch.
Causes of Hair Loss or Thinning Hair : Natural shedding is normal. Normal shedding is considered around 100 hairs a day. This is also based on people shampooing and brushing their hair daily. You naturally shed to make room for new hair to grow. BUT consider this....If you have wavy or curly hair and you only shampoo 1x-3x per week as well as you most likely aren't brushing, then I would ask that you take those 100 hairs per day and multiply by how many days it's been since you shampooed or brushed your hair.
Excessive shedding can be caused due to multiple factors such as dieting especially extreme diets, medication, under active thyroid, stress (especially prolonged), autoimmune disorders, intense trauma such as surgery, chemotherapy, accidents or even a traumatic life event.
